Abstract

SUAREZ VENERO, Gicli M. Notes on the agroecological zoning crop. Special in Cuba. cultrop [online]. 2014, vol.35, n.4, pp. 36-44. ISSN 0258-5936.

In order to review the main aspects of agroecological zoning (ZAE) and special crops in Cuba, this study was performed to serve decision makers and producers as a source of information for planning and ensure more rational use of their land. It describes the main agroecological zoning definitions. It summarizes the history and origin of the issue internationally, with the main reasons that made possible the emergence and implementation of these studies. On the importance of applying the theme in different agroecological conditions of the world, and the need for technicians, makers and producers implement actions for implementation; some methodological considerations are expressed in terms of being adapted to the particular conditions of each territory. As part of the implementation of these studies under the concrete conditions of Cuba, we performed an analysis of the background, needs and potential for implementation of zoning in different crops of economic interest in the country. We conclude that all definitions of ZAE, allow the demarcation of homogeneous surfaces that replace the requirements thereof, the methodology used should be adapted to the particular conditions of the regions and under the soil and climate and sociocultural Cuba, there is a need to prioritize the agroecological zoning work in those crops that require reordering policy according to the characteristics of agroecosystems
