Abstract

Biodiversity conservation is strategic to meet the growing current and future demands of the world’s population. The objective of this work is to present the status of the results and advances obtained in the subject of the knowledge of the variability of the species of the genus Xanthosoma present in Cuba, the management of their genetic resources, as well as the specific classification of cultivars, to serve as a basis for studies leading to clarify the species taxonomy of the genus Xanthosoma. In this review presents the importance of the knowledge of the the genus Xanthosoma particularities and of the genetic resources that compose it, as well as its usefulness in elucidating the classification of the cultivated species that make up this important genus of plants
