Abstract
Rev Cubana Med Trop [online]. 2004, vol.56, n.1, pp. 70-72. ISSN 1561-3054.
It was assessed that the number of HIV infected children due to vertical transmission increases every day and that that is why the early diagnosis in the HIV+ pregnat women and the administration of antivirals in the prenatal stage to reduce the transmission is so important. Taking these factors into account, from 1997 on, it was decided in Cuba to administer AZT to all HIV+ pregnant women and to the newborn infant, as it is established in the protocol 076, which considerably reduced the number of infected children.
