Abstract

MEDINA VERDE, Norma Lidia; SUAREZ LARREINAGA, Carmen Luisa; BERDASQUERA CORCHO, Denis  and  GONZALEZ OCHOA, Edilberto. Evaluation of the qualaity control of tuberculosis in the municipality of Guanajay by a clinical auditing cycle . Rev Cubana Med Trop [online]. 2004, vol.56, n.3, pp.219-226. ISSN 0375-0760.

A descriptive combined and quasi experimental study with historical control (before and after) was conducted in the municipality of Guanajay, Havana province, that did not fulfill some indicators of the National Program of Tuberculosis Control (NPTC) during 2000. The difficulties were identified and 2 tuberculosis training workshops were carried out. Later, in 2001, the evaluation was repeated after the intervention. Criteria and indicators of structure, process and result from the NPTC were used and standards were established according to the counselling of specialists and officials from Guanajay and to what is included in the NPTC of 1999. It was also evaluated the competence and performance of the health personnel linked to the NPTC, as well as their opinions on it by the application of a questionnaire previously reviewed and approved by a group of specialists on the topic. This questionnaire was used in both evaluations for the cycle of medical auditing. It was concluded that the fulfillment of the NPTC is considered as unacceptable due to deficiencies in the training and availability of human resources, the availability of some material resouirces and the implementation process of some activities. However, the auditing cycle contributed to improve the quality of the health personnel’s performance in important activities.
