Abstract

The Helicobacter pylori is a curve, Gram-negative bacteria that lives exclusively in the gastric mucosa. Since its discovery and characterization it has been involved in the physiopathology of gastroduodenal diseases, including gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric carcinoma and MALT lymphoma. This has given rise to numerous hypotheses that try to explain the different events that occur in the inflammatory process of the stomach on its arrival, characterized by a marked infiltration of inflammatory cells (neutrophils, monocytes, lymphocytes and others) that once activated release locally various chemical mediators, which are responsible for the tissue damage. Cytokines outstand as important mediators of such a process. An updated review of the different biological functions of cytokines in the tissue damage of the gastric mucosa is made
