GONZALEZ QUINTANA, Xiomara; NOTARIO RODRIGUEZ, Miriam and GUZMAN SABO, Armando. The platelets in diabetes mellitus. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.1, pp.19-24. ISSN 0864-0289.
The most important alterations of the platelet function, such as the anomalies in the metabolism of arachidonic acid, the reduction of the production of prostacyclin, the increase of the content of alpha granules and the rise of GPIb and GPIIb/IIIa glycoprotein receptors in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are described. Likewise, the role of the vascular endothelium as well as the association of DM with a state of hypercoagulability are evaluated
