Abstract
DIAZ CONCEPCION, Alina; ALMAGRO VAZQUEZ, Delfina and BRITO MARTINEZ, Alberto. Sensitivity of the activated partial thromboplastin time to the deficiency of factors VIII and IX and heparin. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.1, pp. 41-48. ISSN 1561-2996.
The reference range of the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) was reevaluated. A reference range from 29 to 40 seconds with a mean () of 34.01 sec. was obtained. By using our system of reagents, acceptable results were obtained as regards the sensitivity to different levels of activity of factors VIII and IX. A high correlation was attained in both cases (r2 = 0.9842 and 0.9846, respectively) when the APTT was associated with the different levels of activity of factors VIII and IX. A linear response was obtained in the interval of heparin activity commonly used in therapy (0.2 to 0.5 UI/mL) and a good response was attained at high concentrations of heparin (0.8 UI/mL) expressed by a finite value of APTT. The need to extend the incubation time with the activator to 10 min. to improve the sensitivity of the test to heparin was corroborated
