Abstract

MORERA BARRIOS, Luz M et al. Phenotypic and genic frequency of HLA antigens in a sample of the Cuban population. Rev Cubana Hematol Inmunol Hemoter [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.3. ISSN 0864-0289.

A study of the phenotypic and genic frequency of the main histocompatibility HLA system in non-related, apparently sound persons taken as a sample of the Cuban population was conducted. The distribution of 87 class I HLA antigens (loci A, B and C) and 25 class II (loci DR and DQ) was analized. The techniques of microlymphocytotoxicity (serological) described by Terasaki and modified by the NIH for class I antigens, as well as the techniques of molecular biology for class II were used. The class I antigens of locus A: HLA A2, A9 and A l9; locus B: B5, B12 and B35; and locus C: Cw4, Cw7; and the class II antigens of locus DR and DQ: DR2, DR3, DR6, DR7, DQ2, DQ5 and DQ6, have the highest frequencies. These results are useful as a reference for the HLA-disease association studies, and for the evaluation of the response given by the Cuban population to transplantations and to certain vaccines

Keywords : Histocompatibility antigens (HLA); antigenic frequency 0; genic frequency.
