Abstract

ROJAS MARTINEZ, Roberto L.; ALMIRALL COLLAZO, José J.  and  BARBER GUTIERREZ, Antonio. Mecánica respiratoria del conejo bajo la acción del uretano, el pentobarbital o la mezcla cloralosa-uretano. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 1997, vol.16, n.1, pp.50-54. ISSN 0864-0300.

The respiratory pattern of the rabbit under the action of 3 anesthetics was characterized. The respiratory airflow and volume were registered by a pneumotachograph, the intraesophageal pressure and the EKG in animals that respire spontaneously under basal conditions, grouped and anesthetized as follow: group 1: pentobarbital IV, 30 mg/kg; group 2: mixture of urethane IV, 400 mg/kg and chloralose IV, 60-80 mg/kg; and group 3: urethane IP, 1,5 g/kg. The following variables were analyzed: respiratory frequence, current volume, volume minute, median inspiratory flow, relationship between inspiration time and total time of respiration (useful time), pulmonary resistance, dynamic compliance, and cardiac frequency. The useful time was different in the three groups. There were no significant differences among the other variables. It is considered that urethane may exert a stimulating action on respiration.
