Abstract
ACEVEDO, Cyntia; HIDALGO, María E; VENEGAS, Andrés and LISSI, Eduardo. Evaluación de la posible incidencia de la varicocelectomía sobre el estrés oxidativo asociado con varicocele. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2000, vol.19, n.3, pp. 213-216. ISSN 1561-3011.
In this paper, TBARS of spermatozoa, the activity of seminal and blood catalase and the urinary luminiscence were compared in infertile patients before and after undergoing varicocelectomy. It was found a decrease in the levels of spermatic lipoperoxidation (expressed as nanomols of MDA) of the patients in postoperative stage compared with the same patientes before the operation. It was also observed a reduction in the urinary luminiscence and in the seminal and blood catalase activity in the same group of patients. The results allowed to conclude that the surgical correction improves the systemic oxidative stress evaluated through the enzimatic activity and the urinary luminiscence that has been proposed as an index of systemic oxidative stress. The spermiograms showed an increase in the number and motility of the spermatozoa. The local oxidative stress decreases, too, which is proved by the TBARS assay
