Abstract

RODRIGUEZ ALBANES, Ana A.; BARRANCO HERNANDEZ, Eva; ALONSO RODRIGUEZ, Celia A.  and  SOTO MATOS, Josanne. Comportamiento de la peroxidación lipídica en la insuficiencia renal crónica. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2003, vol.22, n.1. ISSN 0864-0300.

Known the chemical unbalance produced by lipid peroxidation (LP) and its proved presence in uremia, the oxidative stress was evaluated in 87 patients with chronic kidney failure (CKF) at different stages, determining the LP by means of the intraerythrocytic malonyldialdehyde (E-MDA) with the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances method (TBARS). The population was divided into groups for its study: predialysis, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and a control group. Hematocrit, creatinine, cholesterol, triglycerides and E-MDA were determined in all patients. Those patients with chronic kidney failure had elevated levels of E-MDA compared with the contol group. The statistical analysis of the results corroborated the relation between the increase of LP and the advance of the kidney damage. The hemodialysis group with the highest value of E-MDA presented the lowest lipid levels, which shows the independence of them. It was proved that chronic kidney patients are subjected to oxidative stress since early stages of the disease, a factor that probably takes part in multicausal anemia, inducing oxidative hemolysis, which brings about the disruption of the membranes, where the dialytic procedure plays an important role.
