Abstract
RUIZ ALVAREZ, Vladimir et al. Immunomodulator effect of fitohemaglutinin of Phaseolus vulgaris. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2005, vol.24, n.1, pp.5-13. ISSN 0864-0300.
An in vivo experimental model was developed to evaluate the potentiality of fitohemaglutinin from 2 varieties of Phaseolus vulgaris to modulate the immunological system. Male Wistar rats received 10 and 20 mg/kg of weight of fitohemaglutinin obtained from the varieties of “Cueto” dry bean and “Santo Domingo” red kidney bean. Both extracts were inocuous, increased the body mass of animals and did not modify either the haematocrit or the cellular counts of polymorphonuclear neutrophiles, eosinophiles and monocytes. BETERA fitohemaglutinin obtained from Phaseolus vulgaris of the “Cueto” variety was more effective to produce increases in the number of circulating leukocytes and lymphocites and to stimulate lymphocytes B for producing antibodies
