Abstract

FERNANDO CALIXTO, Luis; RAMIREZ MARTINEZ, Angélica María  and  GARZON-ALVARADO, Diego Alexander. On intramembranous ossification: an approach model for the calvaria. Rev Cubana Invest Bioméd [online]. 2012, vol.31, n.3, pp.363-372. ISSN 0864-0300.

The paper deals with the development of a model for the appearance and location of primary ossification centers in the calvaria. This is the first computational model intended to determine the location of these cranial bone structures. A reaction-diffusion model is described of two molecules (BMP y Noggin) which behave as substrate activators. The solution produces Turing patterns representing primary ossification centers. Once again the use of these equations makes it possible to explain morphogenesis phenomena not elucidated by other theories, in this case cranial ossification theories. The topic is under permanent research, especially in the fields of orthopedic and pediatric medicine.

Keywords : cranium; morphology; morphogenesis.
