Abstract

PARADA LOPEZ, Noilan  and  MONIER TORNES, Aimé. Acupuntura en el mantenimiento de la lactancia materna en interconsultas de pediatría. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.3, pp.190-195. ISSN 0864-0319.

An experimental study was conducted with the introduction on of acupuncture in the treatment of hypogalactia in mothers of infants  that received medical attention at the family physicians’ offices of the "28 de Septiembre" Polyclinic, in Santiago de Cuba. To this end, appointments were made for the Acupuncture Department, where the appointments procedure was carried out by using stainless steel needles that were inserted in the selected points during 20 minutes, every other day, in order to tone up in case of emptiness and to "decongest" in case of plenitude. The most used points were: Vg20, Vc17, Vb21, Pc6 and Id1. A questionnarie was used to obtain some variables of interest. Data were manually processed with a calculator. Biosocial factors as those reported in literature due to the influence of breast feeding suppresion were not detected in any of the patients. The results of treatment were satisfactory in all cases and no complications were observed. The treatment was immediately accepted  and it had a short duration in most of the patients.

Keywords : LACTATION DISORDERS [therapy]; ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY [methods].
