SORIA BELL, Belkis; BANDERA GIRON, Dulce María; MERCERON FIGUEROLA, Yolanda and ZAMORA ANGLADA, Maribel. Aspectos psicológicos y sociales más relevantes en ancianos institucionalizados. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.3, pp.207-212. ISSN 0864-0319.
The most important psychological and social aspects in 160 aged persons who were interned or semi-interned in the "América Labadí Arce" Home Forthe Agen, in Santiago de Cuba, were analyzed from January to March, 1995. A survey including variables of interest for the research was done. It was proved the existance of differences related to the admission categories. Particularities of the elderly connected with their own affective sphere, their behaviour in the microenvironmen where they lived and the assessments made about themselves were also shown. In both categories of admission there was a predominance of men aged 75.53 from the urban zone and with a low educational level. Living alone without the possibility of receiving assistance or attention was the main reason to be admitted. A highly representative percent of the elderly considered to be adapted to the life in the institution. Reference is made to how important it is the nurse for the aged as part of the health team.
