The early diagnosis of malformations allows to give convenient care and the possibility of providing genetic counseling aimed at achieving a better perinatal outcome. We intend to analyze the performance of patients seen and assessed with genetic risks. A retrospective crosswise and descriptive research study was performed to study the performance of the community genetic service from 1998 to 1999 in Mantua municipality. The universe of study was 753 pregnant women in the whole municipality but the sample was composed of 577 pregnant women seen at this service. Through the personal record of each woman, we studied variables such as genetic risk classification, its causes, the application or non-application of alpha-fetoprotein test and the reasons for that, and the main detected disorders. The percentage method was the statistical method of choice. It was concluded that the total coverage of pregnant women has not bee reached by the municipal genetic service and that the municipality showed a high level of risk of chromosomal disturbances.
