BETANCOURT LLOPIZ, Ileana; LEYVA LOPEZ,, Isis; MOYA CALA, Maribel  and  HECHAVARRIA TORRES, Maribel. Comportamiento de las infecciones de transmisión sexual en el área "La Caoba". Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.2, pp. 92-97. ISSN 1561-2961.

A retrospective, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out aimed at showing the behavior of syphilis and blenorrhagia in "La Caoba" health area, in San Luis, Santiago de Cuba, from January to December, 1998. 24 patients were included, 20 with blenorrhagia and 4 with syphilis. All were diagnosed according to official data taken from the registry of Compulsory Declaration Disease in the Statistics Department. This paper was based on epidemiological surveys, laboratory control and analysis of the health situation, which showed that there was a higher number of cases diagnosed with blenorrhagia in relation to the screened population. Males were the most vulnerable to blenorrhagia, whereas syphilis behaved in the same way in both sexes. The age group 20-24 was the most affected and the highest incidence was reported in the married and accompanied patients. The greatest incidence was observed in those with secondary educational level and it was proved that most of the patients did not use condoms.
