A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the characteristics of bronchial asthma in 100 patients selected at random of a total of 1 463 asthmatics that received attention at "José País García" Polyclinic from January, 1995, to December, 1996. It was observed that the disease was more common in the age group 40 and over, particularly in females. The housing conditions were considered as good in three fourth parts of the series, where the group with family pathological history of the entity by paternal line predominated. Most of those having contact with allergens were linked with humidity in some way and almost all the patients included in the casuistics followed the intercrisis treatment supported by the constant instructions of the nursing personnel.
