Abstract

This account is based on an article written by Laurie Thomas (1974) in the Nursing Outlook magazine. This article was published in January with the title "How to become a witch: or everything you always wanted to know about the administration of nursing services, but were afraid of asking". In a funny way, the authoress explains the affirmative behavior the nursing service manageress should have to defend her territory. By showing different situations, the authoress describes the way a nursing service manageress comes to the defense of her ideas, although on doing so she be nicknamed witch. Almost 30 years after its first publication, this article is still valid and deserves to be read again just to reaffirm the role of the nursing service manageress. Every nurse should read it, specially the beginners in the profession.
