Ectopic pregnancy is considered to be a real medical emergency hence the interest in knowing the situation of this problem in "América Arias" gynecological and obstetric hospital in the City of Havana province. One hundred and seventy two patients admitted to the hospital for ectopic pregnancy from 1998 to 2000 were studied. The main variables considered were age, clinical manifestations, complications and diagnostic means. The frequency of ectopic pregnancy was 1 per 106 deliveries or surgical interventions. The average age was 28.1 years. The over 31-years-old group was the most affected. The emergency service department took care of 118 patients with ruptured or fissured ectopic pregnancy. The principal complications were anemia in 54,1% of cases and shock in 9.9% of patients, without maternal deaths. Right tube was the predominant location of ectopic pregnancy. The study concluded that there was a yearly increase of ectopic pregnancy and so, it was recommended to educate more the population so that patients with that problem go earlier to the health care center.
