Pursuant to Revista Cubana de Enfermería ´s objective of disseminating information about the most outstanding nursing figures in Cuba and the world, a brief biography of Pelegrina Sardá y Sardá, a nurse graduated from the nursing school of the former Hospital no. 1, presently "Calixto García" hospital where she managed to be appointed as superintendent, is published in this issue. In 1909, the National Association of Cuban Nurses was founded, then in 1913 Pelegrina was elected vice-treasurer and in 1918 she became the chairwoman of the organization. Under her leadership, the Association participated in the First National Congress of Women in 1923 and worked for the approval of an amendment to the nurse retirement law that was not finally passed. It was achieved the authorization for the celebration of the Day of Nurses on June the 3rd. She died in Havana at the age of 76 years.
