Abstract

TRINCADO AGUDO, Maria Teresa  and  BANDERA SANCHEZ, Osladis. Development and perspectives of nephrological nursing. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.1, pp.1-1. ISSN 0864-0319.

The activity of the nursing personnel in the nephrology area is dealt with in this paper, making emphasis on prevention due to the importance of continuing improving the health indicators in this specialty. The rise in the levels of qualification of nurses and male nurses, 41 % in the last two years, is shown. The general and specific syllabuses are mentioned. In 2003, 158 nurses and male nurses specialized in Nephrology finished their studies. The nursing work is described by care levels, mainly vaccination against hepatitis B that is carried out at the primary health care level among patients on hemodialysis. A continuous decrease has been observed in the incidence rate, which is 0.1 among the 1 500 patients undergoing dialysis. The nursing actions in the 3 504 kidney transplants performed in Cuba until the end of 2003 are stressed.

Keywords : Nephrological nursing; hemodialysis; kidney transplant.
