Abstract

CUBA REYES, Milagros; RIBAS LACASSE, Lena; MARINO NEYRA, Oneyda  and  GOMEZ GARLOBO, Elvira. Advantages related to fruit-therapy in patients convalescent of severe pneumonias. Rev Cubana Enfermer [online]. 2009, vol.25, n.1-2. ISSN 0864-0319.

We made an interventional study in Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory services of Children South Teaching Hospital of Santiago de Cuba during a year (from January to December, 2007) to assess advantageous use of fruit -therapy in the rehabilitation of patients convalescents of severe pneumonias. Working sample included 48 patients presenting with severe pneumonias received fruit-therapy during admission. Study was carried out in three stages: diagnostic, where we made a previous assessment of patient convalescence status; one of intervention type, where fruit-therapy was added to patient's diet, and another of evaluating type, assessing the therapy response. We conclude that male patients and aged under a year were the more affected from pneumonias. We note a favorable convalescence status, ant also those family carers fulfilled properly with fruits-therapy, inducing a favorable response in most of patients. Advantages of this type of therapy to accelerate the rehabilitation of severe pneumonias-convalescent patients were showed.
