Resumen

RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ, Tomás. El estrés y la habituación alcohólica. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1998, vol.14, n.4, pp.398-406. ISSN 0864-2125.

This paper is based on the knowledgement and experiences accumulated for over 10 years of study and treatment of alcoholic patients. It is underlined that ever more frequently «drinking bottle represents satisfaction for nonconformists, courage for cowards and self-confidence for timids», so very often those stress-generating conditions, inevitable in modern life, lead to the first alcohol-taking experiences which may become a habit. Also the paper stresses the most common physical, social and psychological situations that may result in stress and the main styles of confrontation or psychological response in the interaction with the environment where one’s personality is formed and matured and becomes introvert, extrovert or flexible. After pointing out the many forms in which stress may lead to alcohol consumption as a way to alleviate stressing conditions and this may become a risk for the beginning of a variable serious habit, a group of advices are provided which should be taken into account so as to effectively face inevitable stress. The paper also underlines the ideal behaviour of a healthy, mature and flexible man who does not drink; if he drinks he does not get drunk and if he gets drunk, then he never repeats the action
