Abstract

A descriptive research was conducted to estimate the costs and benefits of home admission. The economic analysis was made from a social perspective. This technique was more used among pregnant women and children under 1. Upper respiratory diseases and term gestations had the greatest incidence. The most administered drugs were in correspondence with their availability and the diseases. Hospital stay did not have the same behavior in all groups. Pocket expenses accounted for the highest percentage within the tangible direct costs mainly caused by additional food. Health sector expenditures were higher than those of relatives and patients. Indirect costs were lower than the direct ones. The study showed that 88.6 % got cured, 8.8 % presented complications and 2.5 % died
