A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted to determine the gender differences concerning the biosocial characteristics, the community, productive and reproductive roles, and those aspects affecting health. The sample was composed of 150 men and 150 women, who were married among themselves. All of them were surveyed and according to the results 39.3 % of the women were not working, whereas men had higher salaries, felt satisfied with their jobs, and had more possibilities of improving their educational level. Generally, women did the housework, were in charge of family planning, and took part in religious activities more frequently. Women were also victims of physical, psychological and sexual mistreatment. It was concluded that in the reproductive and productive roles there was inequity of gender in favor of men. As regards community management, it was observed a predominance of gender equity. A greater number of variables affected women’s health
