The incidence of falls among the elderly is much higher than in the rest of the population. Aged people many times accept it as an inevitable part of aging and that’s why they frequently stop consulting the doctor about this fact. Therefore, the family physicians should find in their population those patients at risk of falling, avoiding this way their organic and psychological consequences. It is important for physicians to know the commonest causes of these falls and how to prevent them. These aspects are approached in this paper in a clear and simple way in order to attain a better under standing

Keywords : ACCIDENTAL PALLS [prevention & control]; WOUNDS AND INJURIES [epidemiology].
