Abstract

ROBLES MARTINEZ-PINILLO, Julio Alberto; HERNANDEZ HERNANDEZ, Roberto  and  FONTE VILLALON, Rafael. Diagnóstico y tratamienton de las hiperlipoproteinemias. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 1999, vol.15, n.4, pp.461-472. ISSN 0864-2125.

A bibliographic review of the hyperlipoproteinaemias was made, since they are an important risk factor for ischemic heart disease. Hyperlipoproteinaemias comprise the alterations produced by the increase of lipoproteins caused by genetic, dietetic, secondary factors or by other processes. Their diagnosis is made by lipidogram and cold test. For clinical and practical effects they are divided into hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and mixed hyperlipemia. The milestones of their treatment are the control of the causal disease, the most important in the secondary hyperlipoproteinaemias; and diet therapy, which is the cornerstone of the treatment regardless the cause and the antilipemic drugs used when it is not possible to control the disease. The treatment of hyperlipoproteinaemias contributes to reduce morbimortality from ischemic heart disease. Its control as a risk factor must be associated with the control of other known risk factors.
