Abstract
PONS CALDERIN, Orlando et al. Valoración antropométrica en el recién nacido bajo peso. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2000, vol.16, n.1, pp. 18-24. ISSN 1561-3038.
A longitudinal study of 205 children that were born between January and June, 1996, in the health areas of the "Juan Manuel Márquez" Pediatric Hospital, was conducted aimed at making an anthropometric assessment of the low birth weight newborns during the first year of life. 85 of them weighed less than 2 500 g at birth and the rest were discretely selected as controls. A probability sample was not used due to the descriptive nature of the study. Weight, lenght, head and chest circumferences, mean arm circumference, as well as tricipital and subscapular skinfolds were measured at birth, and at the lst, 3rd, 6th, 9th and 12 th month. 2 stratification criteria were utilized: the first divides newborns according to their birth weight and the second divides low birth weight infants taking into account their gestational age. The differences between both groups were analyzed completely and according to their temporary change. The results showed that although the temporary trajectories were similar, the group of the low birth weight newborns proved to have a slightly faster growth rate as regards lenght, head and chest circumference and subscapular skinfold
