Abstract

BEMBIBRE TABOADA, Rubén; BALBOA GODOY, Felicia Bárbara  and  LOPEZ REGUEIRO, Teresa. Estudio anual de una población diabética por el Médico de Familia. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2000, vol.16, n.1, pp. 57-62. ISSN 1561-3038.

A descriptive, explorative cross-sectional study of the diabetic population of the Reforma San José People´s Council was conducted between January, 1998, and January, 1999 (n = 107), so as to know and to associate variables of interest for the better knowledge and improvement of the control of these patients. Data were obtained through a questionnarie, by interviewing patients and physicians and by reviewing medical histories. Data were processed by the EPINFO 6.0 system. Chi square tests of statistical validation were applied to contingency tables. Significant data were obtained in the predominance of females for type II and general diabetes, whereas highly significant data were attained for the determination of the greatest report of type II diabetes mellitus in the group aged 60 and over. The main risk markers found in the series were sedentarism, arterial hypertension and obesity. Arterial hypertension, vascular peripheral insufficiency and ischemic heart disease were the most found diseases and/or complications in our research. A katz A index prevailed in the series with significant statistical validation. Most of the patients had and adequate metabolic control most of the time. It is stressed the fundamental role played by the Family Physician in community care. The main results are shown in tables designed by the Word system of Windows
