Abstract

PINON VEGA, José  and  TORRES HERNANDEZ, Mercedes. Impacto de la promoción y la educación para la salud en los logros de la salud pública cubana. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.1, pp.91-99. ISSN 0864-2125.

The National Center of Health Promotion and Education is the body in charge of establishing the norms, procedures and general methodology for the fulfillment of the educative objectives of the different programs of the Cuban health system. In order to continue the improvement of this component and its evaluation, it is proposed to conduct a initial base study that will have a periodical follow-up by the qualitative technique of interviews to experts who know the evolution of diverse programs and campaigns carried out by the Ministry of Public Health, as well as to other representatives of mass organizations and State bodies. As a complement of the study, a survey on the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the population over 20 was designed. To this end, a multistage stratified sampling was used. 3 strata were included: the western zone, the central zone and the eastern zone of the national territory. The results of the national survey on risk factors done by the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology were taken into consideration with the same purpose. The results of this study will allow to enhance and impulse the intersectorial actions, the community participation and the training of human resources, starting from the requirements demanded by the health programs' aims. All this will contribute to improve the life style of the Cuban society
