Abstract

MELLINA RAMIREZ, Eduardo et al. Factores de riesgo asociados con la tensión arterial en adolescentes. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2001, vol.17, n.5, pp. 435-440. ISSN 1561-3038.

An analytical, crosswise and descriptive analysis of 355 students aged 11-15 years, who study 7th,8th and 9th grades, was conducted. Anthropometric variables, pathological family history of hypertension, smoking and its relation with blood pressure were all evaluated. In our study, blood pressure values increased with the age, mainly in the 13-15 y age group. As to the diastolic pressure, we found a 2 mm Hg difference in females as compared to males. The increase of the systolic pressure was 10 mm Hg in obese adolescents in sitting position whereas it was 8 mm Hg in standing up position. High blood pressure figures were detected in smokers in comparison with non-smokers. There was no association between blood pressure values and the pathological family history of blood hypertension
