Abstract

A crosswise descriptive study of essential hypertensive females aged 40-59 years was conducted from February 1st to December 31st, 1999 in 8 physicians offices in "26 de Julio" teaching polyclinics, Playa municipality. The classification register was used in each office. Women with diabetes, renal disorders and control nervous system problems were excluded. All the essential hypertensive women were studied by applying a questionnaire which included age, occupation, mental status, blood pressure according to the stage of climateric or menopause as well as ages at which menarche and menopause occurred. It was concluded that most of the patients either hypertensive or normotensive did not work; the hypertensive women without partners prevailed and systolic and diastolic blood pressures were higher in perimenopausal hypertensive females. Ages at which menarche and menopause appeared was slightly older in hypertensives
