Abstract

GONZALEZ-CARBAJAL PASCUAL, Miguel  and  CONCEPCION IZAGUIRRE, Ludmila. Helicobacter pylori y dispepsia, un problema de salud comunitario. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2002, vol.18, n.3, pp.207-212. ISSN 0864-2125.

Although the causative relationship between Helicobacter pylori and chronic gastritis as well as the important connection of this infection with gastric-duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer are well established, the association of Helicobacter pylori infection and non-ulcer dispepsia is a problem that is still unclear. Some authors do not hesitate in using Helicobacter pylori eradication treatment in cases of non-ulcer dispepsia but there are other alternative approaches to this problem. The eradication treatment in patients with non-ulcer dispepsia may or may not benefit patients and the community, but will benefit for sure the big drug manufacturing transnationals which make huge earnings from trading of proton pump blockers and antibiotics that are included in any Helicobacter pylori infection eradication therapy. The relief of dispeptic symptoms as a result of the eradication treatment has not been demonstrated yet. The application of Helicobacter eradication therapy to patients with non-ulcer dispepsia remains to be a dilemma, and thus, it should not be systematically indicated.
