A bibliographic review of the most important elements of acute respiratory failure was made. A synthesis of the principles on which the management of these patients is supported was carried out. Reference was made to oxygen therapy, the humidification of the inhaled air, the administration of aerosol drugs and the aspiration of the airways. The ways and methods to perform these maneuvers are dealt with.
