Abstract

A review of the aspects the physician should take into consideration before applying an antibiotic therapy is made. The origin of the patient, the location and type of sepsis, the factors of the guest, the determination of the possible germ, the selection of the antibiotic, the route of administration and its doses and intervals, the duration of the antimicrobial treatment, the adverse effects and the cost of the drug are among these aspects. The combination of antimicrobials, the antimicrobial chemoprophylaxis and the inadequate use of antimicrobials are also exposed.
