Abstract

ISRAEL LOPEZ, José; LUGONES BOTELL, Miguel; VALDESPINO PINEDA, Luis  and  AMBROSIO SAN MARTIN, Sonia. Psychosocial aspects of pregnancy in adolescence. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.3-4. ISSN 0864-2125.

An observational descriptive study with qualitative approach was conducted from August 1st to October 30th, 2002, in the municipality of Cotorro, Havana City. The psychosocial, familial, affective-familial and sexual areas were explored. It was found a lack of communication between parents and adolescents and that the main motivation of our adolescentes is to   continue studying. It was proved that the sexual act is motivated by curiosity and that it began at a very early age. The fundamental cause to remain pregnant was the fear to parents' reaction, whereas the decision  to induce abortion was mainly motivated by the desire to keep on studying.

Keywords : Pregnancy in adolescence; sexuality; parents; sexually transmitted infections.
