Abstract

A descriptive and retrospective study was conducted in “10 de Octubre” municipality to know the behavior of cardiovascular affections in children and adolescents, as well as their repercussion on the reproductive health in adolescence. It was found that interventricular communication was the most common congenital heart disease, followed by interauricular communication and the persistence of the arterious duct. The highest percentage of children suffering from this disease are not operated on and they are in the age groups 1-4 and 5-19. 17.5 % of them had severe congenital heart diseases. There was a poor register of the other cardiovascular affections. None of the female adolescents carriers of these entities was pregnant. Heart diseases were the main cause of mortality among the congenital abnormalities, and there was a mortality of 20 %.
