Abstract

A descriptive and retrospective census type study was conducted among the 130 patients that were admitted at the Municipal Intensive Care Unit in Nueva Paz from February 26 to June 30, 2006, aimed at evaluating its impact since it was opened. On distributing the population under study, it was observed a predominance of females aged 15-59. The cardiac arrhytmias were the leading causes of admission, followed by decompensated arterial hypertension. More than half of those that were hospitalized improved, and the referal causes were related to the aggraviation of the clinical picture. The myocardial infarction was the highest cause of hospital mortality, and the degree of satisfaction of patients and health care providers was adequate, which showed the quality of the health services in this unit level with the excellence our people deserve.
