Abstract

AGUILAR HERNANDEZ, Idalberto et al. Influence of physical exercise on some risk factors for ischemic heart disease. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2007, vol.23, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1561-3038.

In order to describe the frequency of some coronary risk factors for ischemic heart disease and the influence of exercise on them, 80 patients with ischemic heart disease were studied, 40 did physical exercises and 40 controls did not. The following variables were evaluated in all of them: age, sex, diagnosis of ischemic heart disease, weight, arterial hypertension, smoking, glycaemia and cholesterol. Cardiac infarction was the most common form of this syndrome, whereas sedentarism and arterial hypertesnion were the most frequent risk factors. The systematic practice of physical exercises as part of the treatment in the first group exerteed a positive influence on the average values of body weight, glycaemia, cholesterol, the values of systolic-diastolic arterial tension, as well as the marked reduction of the number of cigarettes per day.

Keywords : Myocardial ischemia; rehabilitation; exercise; physiology.
