Abstract
BENITEZ MAQUEIRA, Bárbara de la Caridad; PRIA BARROS, María del Carmen; ROJAS OCHOA, Francisco Raúl and BARROSO GUTIERREZ, Mercedes. Editorial process of the Revista Cubana de Medicina General Integral, years 2002 and 2006. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2008, vol.24, n.3. ISSN 0864-2125.
The Revista Cubana de Medicina General Integral experienced undesired changes due to the deterioration of the quality of the articles received for publication and to the non-homogeneity of the peer-review process, which led to the need of evaluating some of its quality parameters. An observational, descriptive and retrospective study of the volumes 18 and 22 of the publication in the years 2002 and 2006 was carried out. Some aspects of the editorial process were evaluated. There was a high percentage of approved articles and a considerable number of published articles during the studied years. The editorial and advisor committee had an adequate size and composition, but an elevated average of days for the approval of articles was observed. Original articles predominated, followed by review articles and descriptive researches in both years. It was observed an average of 3 authors per author. Most of them were 2nd degree specialists with teaching rank of Associate and Assistant. The reduction of the time for the approval of articles for their publication, the increase of the quality of peer-review, and the better work of the editorial committee have allowed to improve the editorial process of the journal. The prevailing authors were the specialists.
