Abstract

Introduction: heart diseases constitute the first cause of death worldwide. For more than 40 years, Cuba showed similar statistics until 2012 when cancer became the first cause of death; nevertheless cardiovascular diseases hold the second place for Cuba and particularly, acute myocardial infarction is the main one. Objective: to extend knowledge on the diagnostic elements and the behavior to be adopted when facing acute myocardial infarction in the primary health care. Development: special emphasis was made on the diagnostic elements and the recommended behavior to be adopted according to the possibilities of the primary health care setting. Conclusions: acute myocardial infarction accounts for the highest mortality index among the heart diseases of multifactoral causes; its diagnosis at the primary health care level is based on the clinical picture and the electrocardiographic changes. Thrombolysis is the milestone in early treatment of reperfussion.
