Abstract

FLEITES DID, Tania Yanet; GISPERT ABREU, Estela de los Ángeles  and  BLANCO BARBEITO, Nubia. Oral Health Promotion from an Intersectoral Approach. Rev Cubana Med Gen Integr [online]. 2022, vol.38, n.3  Epub Sep 01, 2022. ISSN 1561-3038.

Introduction:

In order to improve the state of oral health, it is essential to work on health promotion and to look for more innovative methods from early ages. Thus, intersectorality is presented as a solution.

Objective:

To describe the need for oral health promotion based on intersectorality as it is reflected in the literature reviewed.

Methods:

A bibliographic review was carried out, during which articles published in Spanish, English and Portuguese were analyzed. Forty-seven bibliographic references of texts published in the period from January 2020 to May 2021 were used. Bibliographic databases and directories such as Scopus, SciELO, Medline were consulted, together with books from the medical sciences publishing house ECIMED, using keywords and Boolean operators to expand the results: promoción de salud [health promotion] AND (salud bucal [oral health] OR promoción de salud bucal [oral health promotion]), promoción de salud bucal [oral health promotion] AND intersectorialidad [intersectorality]. With an updated approach, the topics of oral health, health promotion, oral health promotion, intersectorality were addressed both internationally and in Cuba, demonstrating its importance.

Conclusions:

According to current contexts, oral health promotion is of great importance for comprehensive development (biopsychosocial), from intersectorality. From this perspective, health promotion, with the participation of several actors, is therefore the indicated strategy to improve oral health from early ages, which will allow improving health care management.

Keywords : health promotion; oral health; intersectorality.
