It is critically analized the utilization of the book Medically Speaking to achieve the development of the 4 basic skills of the English language among 5th-year medical students. Recommendations on the general methodology and on the most effective strategies for developing these important linguistic skills and habits within this speciality are made. Particular enphasis is made on the use of a wide variety of real situations that motivate the students to communicate their ideas on topics that are closely related to their future professional work.
