Abstract
DIAZ GONZALEZ, Rubén et al. Valoración del nivel de conocimiento y habilidades con que ingresan los estudiantes a la carrera de medicina. Educ Med Super [online]. 2001, vol.15, n.2, pp.172-179. ISSN 0864-2141.
Currently, teaching at all levels is aimed at promoting the development of skills, habits and capabilities in the students in order to prepare the professionals required by todays society. The present paper conducts a study to find out the theoretical skills and knowledge of the students, who started their medical studies in the academic year 1996-1997, in Chemistry and Biology because these two subjects from the previous educational levels were the ones related with Biochemistry. A diagnostic test in these two subjects was applied to a randomly selected sample of students so as to explore a group of required logical skills necessary for the development of this discipline. Also the marks that the students got in these subjects in the University entrance exam were taken into consideration. The statistical analysis comprised parametric and non-parametric tests. The results showed that the students had good command of those contents in which skills at reproductive level were particularly required. It may be inferred from this that the previous education system did not adequately develop skills at productive and creative levels.
