Abstract

CARRION PEREZ, Evangelina. Validación de características al ingreso como predictores del rendimiento académico en la carrera de medicina. Educ Med Super [online]. 2002, vol.16, n.1, pp.1-2. ISSN 0864-2141.

It is very useful to predict the academic performance of students so as to take adequate measures individually and globally. The present paper characterizes the students who entered the medical career in 1992-93 and 1993-94 courses, taking into account performance variables at admission and during the career, the origins of these students, ways of admission, centers and municipalities where they come from. The performance variables used were: academic index at high school, results of the admission tests, results of biomedical subject tests, academic index per year and at graduation. Some association among the considered variables was looked for and the regression models were adjusted to allow assessing the predictive capacity of admission indicators such as academic index in high school and results of the admission tests, which have an incidence on the medical studies. It was conclauded that both the academic index and the results of admission tests can be used as predictors of future performance, being the academic index in high school the most relevant.
