A brief historical review of the Diploma project as a postgraduate education figure is made in this paper. The possibility of those who conclude it to attain the required competence to perform certain functions outstand among the considerations given. The main methodological difficulties found in the design of the Diploma projects in the National Health System are analyzed and the ways to solve them are described. The functions of the Diploma project as a form of continuing education are explained and emphasis is made on the opportunities offered by the Community Diploma Project. Some variables are suggested to have a quality pattern leading to the improvement of the design of this important form of postgraduate education.
