SERRANO BARRERA, Orlando R.; ROBINSON RODRIGUEZ, Rosa J.; CASTELLANOS MARTINEZ, Rosa  and  GUEVARA ROSALES, Mercedes. Immunology in the undergraduate medical education. Educ Med Super [online]. 2005, vol.19, n.4. ISSN 0864-2141.

Nowadays, immunology may provide knowledge and develop skills that potentiate the acting of the health professionals. There are many immunological products under application or in clinical trail stage in Cuba and in the world for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases. That's why, it is indispensable to transform the present teaching of this science, which is still incomplete. The subjects devoting more time to the contents related to immunology in the medical career are Physiology II, Biological Agents and Pathological Anatomy, which are not enough to attain the deepening, integration and skills required by the future professional in this branch to have a mode of acting in accordance with the current advances of the biomedical sciences. The principles, usefulness and applications of the methods of diagnosis and immunological treatment are basic knowledge for the future health professional. Immunology may also contribute to the incorporation and formation of values and may consolidate the logical thinking, the skills of observation, abstraction, synthesis, generalization and application. Its teaching requires a wider and more integrating approach that includes values and models of thinking and acting.
