Abstract

Objective: to deal with the historical aspects on the undergraduate internship in Medicine and to contextualize the approach of the clinical competences in Mexico in the Latin American area. Development: it was made a review in which all the Latin American schools and faculties that were included contemplated the undergraduate internship within medical training, although there are substantial differences as to the themes included, duration, location, role of the student’s training in research and the role of community practice, among other aspects. Conclusions: the undergraduate internship is an indispensable practice for students to apply, integrate and consolidate the knowledge acquired during the previous cycles. Through its historical evolution it has allowed the unfolding of the basic sciences to exert the clinical practice. In the last years, attention has been given to the recognition of the problems in the environment where the man develops
