Abstract

The Program for the Master's Degree in Primary Health Care (PHC) was designed to give an answer to the needs identified by the health system and the social need to contribute to the formation of specialists that work in PHC as well as to elevate the scientific and technical levels that allows the development and implementation of research to give an answer to the problems identified in the analysis of health situations. Aimed at identifying the strengths of the Course Design for Excellence for the Master's Degree in Primary Health Attention in the year 2012, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in which, by group technique, the following variables were studied: social pertinence, institution tradition and inter-institutional collaboration, teachers´ staff and tutors, material and administrative support of the program, students and the curriculum. It is concluded that the Master's Degree in Primary Health Attention has strengths that make a pertinent program possible, with a great social impact in which, the tradition of the institution, the inter-institutional collaboration and its material support allow and guarantee its development. Similarly, the scientific and technical levels of the teachers allow the successful development of Course Design for Excellence for the master's degree providing the students the necessary skills that permit to identify and give solution to health problems in the community.
